JUST BEYOND | 14 MIN | 35MM | 2025

'Just Beyond’ is about loss, memory and renewal. I explore manifestations of loss in uncanny entanglements between human and non-human entities through unstable temporalities of photography. I collaborated with people in Lapland that include Finnish and Sámi artists, photographers, teachers, reindeer herders, doctors, farmers, academics and film makers. Their recurring memories of loss are snagged on experiences of domestic murder, suicide, fatal illness, addiction, mental illness and the unforgiving terrain of Lapland. I photographed them and personal sites of remembrance that appear to transgress liminal boundaries between life and death. This film is comprised of hundreds of 35mm negatives, with a soundtrack by Philip Jeck.
